Dr. Joanne L. Becker joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in 2000, as Medical Director, Blood Bank and Therapeutic Apheresis Unit and Associate Chief, Division of Laboratory Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Rootstown, OH, in 1989; and completed residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at University Hospital, SUNY at Stony Brook, NY in 1994, and a fellowship in Blood Bank/Transfusion at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1995.
Dr. Becker is licensed by New York State and Virginia and is certified by the American Board of Pathology (Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (1994); Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, 1996). She also is Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Becker's research interest focus on the study of the utilization of laboratory tests and blood products, development of new applications for laboratory tests, and the translation of manufacturing methods of process control to blood banking and laboratory medicine.
Dr. Becker is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks, the American Society for Apheresis; the American Society of Clinical Pathologists; the American Society of Hematology; the American Society for Quality Clinical Lab Management Association and the College of American Pathologists.
Dr. Becker has authored or co-authored more than 60 journal publications, book chapters and abstracts.
