Dr. Maurice P. Barcos joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in 1973, as Attending Pathologist, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, and was appointed Director of the Hematopathology Laboratory in 1993. He earned his medical degree from the Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1962, and his doctoral degree in Biophysics from the University of Chicago in 1975.
Between 1963 to 1969, Dr. Barcos was Research Associate, Department of Biophysics, and completed residency training in Pathology at the University of Chicago. He then completed fellowships in Hematopathology at the University of Chicago in 1970, and at the University of Southern California in 1972.
Dr. Barcos is licensed by New York State and is certified by the Medical Council of Canada (1963), National Board of Medical Examiners (1966), and American Board of Pathology (Anatomic Pathology, 1970; Clinical Pathology, 1977). He also is Clinical Professor of Pathology at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Barcos’ research interests focus on clinicopathologic correlation of flow cytometric, gene rearrangement and immunohistochemical assays with morphology of patients with leukemias and lymphomas.
Dr. Barcos is emeritus member of the United States/Canadian Academy of Pathology and American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Barcos has authored or co-authored over 120 journal publications and book chapters.
