For Immediate Release
April 27, 2009
BUFFALO, NY – Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) is the latest addition to the on-field lineup for Bisons Baseball. America’s first cancer center is the first organization to sponsor “Coaches’ Boxes” at Coca-Cola Field.
The Institute’s logo will be visible along the sidelines, and Bisons coaches will be introduced in the “Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s Coaches’ Boxes” as they take their positions on the field. The new initiative is the creation of Laurel DiBrog, Vice President of the Department of Marketing, Planning and Public Affairs, RPCI. In addition, educational cancer messages will run on the big board during every game.
“Scientific evidence suggests that about one-third of all cancer deaths could be prevented with healthy lifestyle choices,” said DiBrog. “Brief creative messages will help to demystify the disease of cancer and give baseball fans important and positive information about health.”
“Roswell Park is dedicated to cancer education and prevention using communication tools that reach the general public at home and at play,” said Judy Smith, MD, Medical Director, RPCI. “These innovative communication tools will reach thousands of baseball fans, offering information about ways to reduce the risk of cancer.”
“The Bisons have long supported the great efforts of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Roswell Park has been helping improve the quality of life for baseball fans throughout Western New York,” added Mike Buczkowski, Vice President/General Manager of the Bisons. “We’re proud to have Roswell Park as a part of our on-field team.” Photographs of the Roswell Park coaches’ boxes can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/roswellpark/sets/72157617133666945/.
