March 17, 2009
BUFFALO, NY –The public is invited to a lecture featuring a leading expert in health care policy. Bruce C. Vladeck, PhD, will present “Cancer Care as a Paradigm for Health Care Reform” at 5 pm, March 30, in the Hohn Lecture Hall, Research Studies Center, Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), Elm & Carlton Streets, Buffalo, NY.
A nationally recognized expert on health care policy, health care financing and long-term care, Dr. Bruce Vladeck brings unparalleled experience, a unique perspective and unusual wit to the issues surrounding the future of healthcare, and is the featured speaker in the second annual David C. Hohn, MD, Lecture Series on Health Care Policy.
“Modern cancer care requires close co-ordination among multidisciplinary specialty teams. The cancer center model also provides a mechanism for bringing new diagnostic and therapeutic agents to the clinic for the benefit of patients. These essential elements will need to be incorporated more broadly into our reforming health cancer system,” said David C. Hohn, MD, Executive Director for Health Policy, RPCI. “Dr. Vladeck, with his wealth of experience in national health care administration, will discuss the cancer care model along with the challenges and opportunities for health care reform in the United States.”
Dr. Vladeck previously served as the Administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration in the US Department of Health and Human Services, where he directed Medicare and Medicaid. During his tenure, he revitalized agency morale and performance, oversaw the most extensive reorganization in the agency’s history and brought significant innovations to its programs. Dr. Vladeck also has served as a consultant to a wide range of healthcare and other nonprofit organizations. He most recently served as Interim President of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
The Hohn Lecture Series, featuring distinguished speakers in the field of health policy, was established in honor of David C. Hohn, MD, President Emeritus and Executive Director of Health Policy at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, with a grant from the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
