Roswell Park Faculty Member Featured Speaker at National Scientific Symposium

BUFFALO, NY – Asher A. Chanan-Khan, MD, Department of Medicine, Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), will be a featured speaker at symposium “Promising Directions in Myeloma and Lymphoproliferative Disorders: Approaching Resistance, Retreatment and Maintenance Through Novel Clinical Pathways,” at the 49th Annual Meeting & Exposition of the American Society of Hematology, December 7, at 12:30 pm, in the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, GA.
Dr. Chanan-Khan will present “Rational Approaches for Frontline Treatment of Multiple Myeloma.” He will join his colleagues from cancer centers around the world to offer insights into the rapidly evolving field of multiple myeloma therapeutics. A number of promising advances involving novel targeted therapies have been reportedly recently. The symposium will provide updates on investigational and currently approved therapies for treating various stages of multiple myeloma, the second most commonly diagnosed blood cancer. An estimated 20,000 new cases of multiple myeloma will be diagnosed in 2007.
Dr. Chanan-Khan is a nationally recognized expert for his work in the clinical research and treatment of hematological disorders. Clinical scientists from the multiple myeloma research group led by Dr. Chanan-Khan contributed to research which led to U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of the oral medication, lenalidomide, in combination with dexamethasone, for the treatment of multiple myeloma patients.
