Quality of Cancer Care Focus of Scientific Symposium Directed by RPCI Faculty Member

ATLANTA, GA – Stephen B. Edge, MD, Chair of Breast and Soft Tissue Surgery at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) will lead a clinical scientific symposium, titled “Quality Measurement: How Do I Do It? How Will It Affect My Practice and My Patients?” at the 2006 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), June 2-6, Atlanta, GA. The session is scheduled for Monday, June 5, 9:30 – 11 am in Building B, Level 5, Thomas Murphy Ballroom 3.
ASCO clinical scientific symposiums provide a forum for science in oncology, combining the presentations of selected abstracts on specific topics with educational lectures. The objective of this program is to highlight key issues, challenges and advances in the measurement of the quality of cancer care for practicing oncologists. Three invited speakers and presentations of two submitted papers will explore models of cancer care quality.
Dr. Edge will also serve as Co-Chair of the Health Services Research oral abstraction session Monday, June 5, 3 – 6 pm, Building B, Level 2, Room B216. During the session, researchers will examine issues surrounding physician and patient participation in clinical trials and cancer outcomes.
Dr. Edge served as Scientific Program Track Leader for the ASCO 42nd annual meeting of the health services research planning committee. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network where he serves on the Board of Directors, Outcomes Committee, Research Subcommittee and the Breast Cancer Guideline Development Committee. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 journal publications, book chapters and abstracts.
