Past Secretary/Treasurer of ASCO to Lead Prostate Cancer Discussion at Annual Meeting

ATLANTA, GA – Donald L. Trump, MD, Senior Vice President for Clinical Research at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), will lead a scientific discussion titled “Novel Targets in Prostate Cancer” at the 2006 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, June 2-6, Atlanta, GA. The session is scheduled for Sunday, June 4, 4:30 – 6 pm in Building C, Level 1, Hall C3.
Dr. Trump will serve as a discussant and facilitate dialogue following the presentation of a study titled, “Reduced Thromboembolic Events with DN-101 (high dose calcitriol) Treatment of Androgen-Independent Prostate Cancer: Hypothesis for a New Class of Anticoagulant” (abstract #4505). This study examines the potential of a specific form of vitamin D (high-dose calcitriol) as a new class of anticoagulant to reduce serious adverse events such as thromboembolism in prostate cancer patients.
Dr. Trump is past Secretary/Treasurer of ASCO and is a member of numerous professional and scientific societies. His research interests include innovative clinical trials and treatment studies in prostate cancer and anti-tumor mechanism and therapeutic effects of vitamin D. He also is exploring the antiangiogenic effects of high dose calcitriol through preclinical and clinical studies. He holds European and U.S. patents for the use of vitamin D and vitamin D analogues in high dose chemotherapy.
