Faculty Member Appointed to Department of Cell Stress Biology
BUFFALO, NY – Asoke K. Mal, PhD, has been appointed an Assistant Professor of Oncology in the Department of Cell Stress Biology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).
Dr. Mal comes to RPCI from the Lerner Research Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio where he was on the faculty of the Department of Molecular Genetics. He earned his doctoral degree in 1992 in Biochemistry from the University of Calcutta, India.
Dr. Mal’s research interests include molecular mechanisms controlling tissue differentiation and deregulation of these mechanisms in cancer. Specifically, his research is focused on epigenetic mechanisms underlying muscle differentiation that are suppressed in rhabdomyosarcoma, one of the most frequent types of childhood cancer. He discovered a molecular target for potential anticancer drugs
