Hornell Student Honored with Bethesda Foundation Fellowship to Attend Summer Research Program

BUFFALO, NY – Jaimee Lockwood has one again received a Bethesda Foundation Fellowship to attend “The Summer Research Participation Program in Science for Young Scholars” at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in Buffalo, NY. The fellowships are awarded to outstanding science students from the Hornell, NY area. This year’s program runs from June 4 to August 9.
Ms. Lockwood is studying in the laboratories of Margot M. Ip, PhD, and Xiaojing Meng, PhD, Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, RPCI. She was first awarded the Bethesda Foundation Fellowship in 2002 while a junior at Hornell High School."My first internship at Roswell Park confirmed my life-long ambition of going into cancer research and was the greatest experience of my life. I feel extremely fortunate to once again have this exciting opportunity to work with the scientists at Roswell Park.” The Cornell University student is currently pursuing a double major in biology and nutrition.
This summer marks the 55th annual “Research Participation Program in Science for Young Scholars” at RPCI. There will be more than 70 high school, college and medical students studying at the Institute this summer. The seven-week session exposes students to an atmosphere of intense research by combining actual laboratory work with lectures and seminars. The students will complete their research experience by presenting an oral report and poster of their research.
The Bethesda Foundation is a charitable organization devoted to funding and support of health-related projects and scholarships in Hornell, NY. Additional funding to present the Summer Research Participation Program comes from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and First Niagara Financial Group.
