Cancer Survivorship Celebration At RPCI
For Immediate Release
May 25, 2007
BUFFALO, NY – Roswell Park Cancer Institute will join over 700 communities throughout the United States and Canada to celebrate the 20th annual National Cancer Survivors Day, Sunday, June 3, 1 - 4 pm, in the Kaminski Park & Gardens at Roswell Park. The event will honor RPCI cancer patients, their families and friends and recognize health care professionals who are helping in the battle against cancer.
The event will feature “something for everyone” including therapeutic drumming; a “Kids Corner” with games, magicians and clowns; carriage rides, mini information sessions, community support group exhibit tables and music by DJ Norman.
Today, approximately 10.5 million Americans are living with a history of cancer. This includes newly diagnosed patients as well as long-term survivors. Cancer survivors live active, productive lives even though they may still face many challenges. National Cancer Survivors Day is a joyous celebration of life and also a time to thank health care professionals, families and friends for their unending help and support.
“Major advances in cancer prevention, early detection and treatment have resulted in longer survival, and therefore a growing number of cancer survivors,” said Donald L. Trump, MD, President & CEO, RPCI. “Cancer survivors and their families face each day with courage and dignity and serve as an inspiration to all of us.”
Celebration Among Friends is sponsored by Sahlen’s Hot Dogs and the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company and funded through donations made to the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
