Arthur M. Michalek Invited to Cancer Conference in Egypt

BUFFALO, NY- Arthur M. Michalek, PhD, senior vice president for educational affairs and dean of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) Graduate Division, University at Buffalo (UB), has been invited to share his expertise in graduate medical education at the “Annual Conference of Cairo University” and the “National Workshop on Reforming Medical Education in Cancer Centers and Medical Students” in Cairo and Aswan, Egypt, this May.
Dr. Michalek will participate in discussions of biomedical and graduate medical education at Cairo University and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of Cairo University. He is one of a select group of American scientists who have been asked to review the status of medical education in Egypt and suggest ways to reform and restructure the NCI program to achieve better clinical outcomes.
“This is a unique opportunity to participate in the creation of reforms that could have a long-lasting impact on health care in Egypt,” according to Dr. Michalek. “Not only can they can learn from us, but this is an opportunity for us to learn from them by informing them of changes to our curriculum.”
Dr. Michalek is recognized for his contributions as an educator and scientist. His research interests have focused on cancer patterns in Native Americans, late effects of radiation exposure and scientific ethics. He is a member and Past President of the American Association for Cancer Education, the American College of Epidemiology, and serves as a member of several NIH and NCI Committees as well as numerous committees at UB and RPCI. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 journal publications, book chapters and abstracts.
