Three Pathologists Appointed at Roswell Park Cancer Institute

BUFFALO, NY – Wiam Bshara, MD, Helena Hwang, MD, and Hyunseok Peter Kang, MD, have been appointed to the faculty of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).
Dr. Wiam Bshara will specialize in the pathology of gynecologic cancers. He completed a fellowship in Oncologic Surgical Pathology (2007) in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at RPCI; residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (2005) at the University at Buffalo Graduate Medical-Dental Education Consortium Program; and in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (2002) at Allegheny General Hospital. He also trained in Laboratory Medicine at the Damascus University School of Medicine in Syria (1998). He earned his medical degree (1995) at the Tishreen University School of Medicine in Lattakia, Syria. Dr. Bshara is a member of the American Association of Cancer Research, College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
Dr. Helena Hwang will specialize in the pathology of breast cancer. She completed fellowship training in Breast Pathology (2007) and residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (2006) at Northwestern University. She also completed an internship in Internal Medicine (2004) at the University of New Mexico and trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (2002) at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Hwang earned her medical degree (2000) from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Dr. Hwang is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society for Clinical Pathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
Dr. Hyunseok Peter Kang will specialize in molecular pathology and microbiology. He completed a fellowship in Molecular and Genetic Pathology (2007) at the University of Pittsburgh and residency training in Clinical Pathology (2005) from Washington University in St. Louis. He earned his medical degree (2000) from Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea. Dr. Kang is a Diplomate certified in Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, College of American Pathologists and theAssociation for Molecular Pathology.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine comprises of five divisions including Surgical Pathology, the Clinical Laboratory and several specialty labs, which all focus on the accurate diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.
