BUFFALO, NY – Christine Rizk, MD, and Shaneli Fernando, MD, have joined the multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI). Dr. Rizk has been appointed Assistant Professor of Oncology, Division of Breast and Soft Tissue Surgery, Department of Surgical Oncology, and Dr. Fernando is Program Director of Breast Radiation and Assistant Professor, Department of Radiation Medicine.

Dr. Rizk earned her medical degree from the State University of New York College of Medicine, Health Science Center, Syracuse, NY and completed residency training at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH, and a Fellowship at Women and Infants Hospital, Brown University, Providence, RI. She is a member of the American Medical Society and the American Medical Women’s Association. She will perform breast surgery, provide clinical services for diagnosis and treatment and establish clinical trials for breast cancer. Dr. Rizk’s research interests include nipple sparing mastectomy, oncoplastic surgery and breast conserving surgery.

Dr. Fernando is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed her residency at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Women Radiologists. Her research interests include the use of Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography (FDG-PET) to evaluate treatment planning and tumor response during radiotherapy.

The Breast Cancer Program provides comprehensive, individualized care to patients with premalignant and malignant breast disease, as well as information and resources, counseling and emotional support.
