Nursing Overview
The specialized oncology nursing team at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) is the heart of our clinical services, combining competence with compassion.
At RPCI, although one physician will coordinate each patient’s care, nurses will be a part of the multidisciplinary team that consults with a group of professionals offering different specialties. It’s our patients that benefit directly from this team approach, which goes a long way to engender trust and confidence.
The nursing team provides excellent and comprehensive care to cancer patients and their significant others during all phases of their evaluation and treatment. Patients range from pediatric to adult, include a wide range of diagnostic categories and all phases of treatment from evaluation to long-term follow-up of cancer survivors.
Patients who have a diagnosis of cancer have highly complex clinical, psychosocial and educational needs and the nursing professionals at RPCI continuously strive to meet these needs through clinical care, patient/family education, nursing and multidisciplinary research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Department of Nursing is an integral part of the Institute; collaborating on research protocols and conducting independent nursing research to enhance the knowledge base of oncology nursing science, promoting an individualized approach to patient care, and fostering a positive attitude toward cancer management. RPCI’s state-of-the-art work environment is augmented by a philosophy to provide opportunities for staff development, growth and learning.
