Roswell Park’s “Team Cure Orlando Challenge” Will Offer Disney Magic to Walkers and Runners

First-timers and seasoned athletes sought for unforgettable fundraising weekend
(BUFFALO, NY) Take a break from the Buffalo winter, enjoy three days of Disney fun, and make a difference for cancer research and patient care at Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s “Team Cure Orlando Challenge.” Athletic training for the walk and run is now underway for the event being held during the WALT DISNEY WORLD®Marathon Weekend, January 4–7, 2007 in Orlando, Florida.
The event is part of Roswell Park’s Team Cure Challenge program, which trains both first-time and experienced walkers and runners to participate in distance events on behalf of loved ones and friends facing cancer. Over 40 volunteers, including several cancer survivors, took part in Team Cure Challenge events in 2006, heading to locations including Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and Orlando.
The upcoming January Orlando Challenge offers three event choices: a 26.2-mile marathon that winds through all four WALT DISNEY WORLD® Theme Parks; a 13.1-mile half marathon featuring ® Theme Parks; and a 5K Family Fun Run and Kids’ Races, which ® and the opportunity to high-five your favorite characters as you cross the finish line.feature a tour of World Showcase at Epcoton-course Disney music and entertainment visiting two WALT DISNEY WORLD
Professional training is provided to all interested participants according to Lynsey Zimdahl, a special events coordinator who oversees the program for the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
“We want the Team Cure Challenge program to be about ordinary people making a difference for breakthroughs in research, and in honor or those they love,” said Zimdahl. “Many of our past participants had never taken part in a distance athletic event, so our personalized training program helps everyone get ready for the event they feel comfortable with prior to that weekend.” Zimdahl added that everyone meeting the minimum Team Cure Challenge fundraising goal also will receive complimentary airfare, hotel (3 nights), registration fees, online fundraising tools, team meals, jerseys and a victory celebration.
