Annual award will be presented to RN in recognition of career marked by compassion and exceptional care

WHAT: The Sandra C. Genco Award for Excellence in Oncology Nursing will be presented to Colleen Roof, RN, a nurse in Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s Gynecology Department. Roof will be honored for nearly three decades of serving patients at Roswell Park with compassion, expertise and dedication. Roof was nominated by a grateful patient in recognition of her empathetic and personalized manner of nursing, noting that Colleen’s care made a significant difference for the patient throughout her cancer treatments. She will be honored at an award ceremony attended by her fellow nurses, other colleagues, patients and loved ones.

DETAILS:   The Genco Award honors the memory of Sandra Genco, who passed away in January 2002 from cancer. The award is proudly presented annually to a registered nurse at Roswell Park whose work exemplifies the type of care that Sandy and her family received while she was a patient. The winner of this award is selected each year through a competitive nomination process after review of applications sent by patients, family members and faculty and staff at RPCI.
