Nardin Academy Wins Kiss 98.5’s
High School Spirit 2007 Contest
BUFFALO, NY— After over 4.4 million pennies were counted, Nardin Academy has been named the first-place winner in Kiss 98.5 FM’s High School Spirit contest. This year’s contest collected more than $44,000 in coins plus an additional $20,000 in sponsorships to raise $64,000 benefiting Carly’s Club for Kids and Cancer Research at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).
Nardin students raised $11,000 of the total. The school will receive a free concert by national recording artists The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus later this month, and Nardin seniors will head off to Darien Lake for a free Graduation Celebration as rewards for the students’ efforts. The school was one of 29 high schools from across Western New York that participated in High School Spirit 2007, which was sponsored by Pepsi and Cold Stone Creamery. For a list of additional participating schools, visit www.carlysclub.org.
Local high school students collected pennies and had them counted at a Kiss 98.5 drop-off site located at the Eastern Hills Mall from March 12 through April 27. This marked the eighth year for the Kiss 98.5 High School Spirit Contest, which has now raised more than $504,000 to benefit local charities across Western New York.
Carly’s Club was founded by eight-year-old brain cancer patient, Carly Collard Cottone, who bravely succumbed to her illness in August 2002. The organization, managed by the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, offers support programs to make life more manageable for children diagnosed with cancer and their families, and raises funds for pediatric cancer research seeking cures at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
