20th Annual Keith’s Classic Golf Tournament for Carly’s Club

Inspired by one boy’s courage, event succeeds in raising $2.5 million over two decades
Buffalo, NY - The 20th anniversary and final Keith’s Classic Golf Tournament for Carly’s Club at Roswell Park Cancer Institute - a labor of love for the Mordaunt family in memory of their son, Keith Brewer, who lost his battle against cancer at age 6 in 1986- raised an additional $100,000 yesterday to bring hope to other families and to speed research seeking cures for all forms of pediatric cancer.
The tournament, presented by the Sahlen Packing Company and the Roswell Park Alliance Community Advisory Board, took place at Legends on the Niagara, along the scenic Niagara Parkway. A total of 225 golfers of all skill levels teed off to help celebrate a two-decade-long commitment by the family and its friends and the progress made over that time in survival rates for children with cancer. The tournament cumulatively raised $2.5 million for cancer research and quality of life programs for children and families since its inception.
Keith’s Classic established its strong roots at the River Oaks Golf Coarse, however, due to its overwhelming success and support from within and outside of the Grand Island community, the tournament was moved to the larger Legends on the Niagara venue three years ago.
"This event was able to continue to grow thanks to so many friends, families and companies that helped build a loyal base of committed participants," explained Mrs. Mordaunt, a volunteer with the Roswell Park Alliance Community Advisory Board. "Keith's death from cancer changed our lives forever, and we will continue to do all we can do to help Roswell Park's researchers find ways to end cancer once and for all."
Keith’s Classic is just one way funds are raised through Carly’s Club for pediatric cancer research and patient care programs at Roswell Park.
