Roswell Park Cancer Institute offers a eight-week summer nurse intern program for students entering or completing their senior year in a nursing program. This summer experience can enhance your student nursing knowledge by providing the opportunity to:
- Work in the only NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Western New York
- Plan, manage, and set priorities for a patient care assignment
- Develop clinical experience in basic nursing procedures, and observe and assist a registered nurse with advanced procedures
- Utilize the nursing process
- Develop communication skills and interpersonal relationships in a collegial environment.
There are opportunities in many areas including:
- Surgical Oncology
- Medical Oncology
- Bone Marrow Transplant
- Intensive Care Unit
- Ambulatory Surgery
- Pediatric Unit
Students may also choose to broaden their experience by spending one week on a different unit.
Students participate in weekly seminars examining current practice and professional nursing issues.
