Roswell Park Cancer Institute offers a eight-week summer nurse intern program for students entering or completing their senior year in a nursing program. Our program offers a unique opportunity for students to increase their clinical experience in a progressive, comprehensive cancer center setting under the preceptorship of an experienced registered nurse.
This summer experience can enhance your student nursing knowledge by providing the opportunity to:
- Work in the only NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Western New York
- Plan, manage, and set priorities for a patient care assignment
- Develop clinical experience in basic nursing procedures, and observe and assist a registered nurse with advanced procedures
- Utilize the nursing process
- Develop communication skills and interpersonal relationships in a collegial environment.
There are opportunities in many areas including:
- Surgical Oncology
- Medical Oncology
- Bone Marrow Transplant
- Intensive Care Unit
- Ambulatory Surgery
- Pediatric Unit
Students may also choose to broaden their experience by spending one week on a different unit.
Students participate in weekly seminars examining current practice and professional nursing issues.
Application Process
Interested applicants must submit a complete enrollment application, and written recommendations from college faculty to the Director of Nursing Education at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Final selection to the program will be based on successful completion of the application, RPCI employment process, faculty recommendations and interviews.
