The Admissions Committee evaluates the credentials of PhD applicants and offers admission to those likely to succeed.
All admitted PhD students receive program fellowships and/or research assistantships. The annual stipend for first year students is currently $24,000.
A training grant supported by the National Cancer Institute provides pre-doctoral stipend for a limited number of trainees. Only US citizens qualify for this program.
Students supported by fellowships and research assistantships also receive a full waiver of tuition. University-sponsored medical insurance is available.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree in a scientific field, preferably biology or biochemistry; a minimum average grade of "B" is expected. Applicants must take the general GRE test. If a subject test is taken it should be either in biology or biochemistry. Scores at or above the 50th percentile in all tests are required. TOEFL scores, if applicable, should be at least 250 for the computer test or 600 for the paper test, or 95 on the internet-based test.

Application Deadlines
Preference for admission is given to those whose applications are received on or before February 1. Each Ph.D. student who is accepted will be considered for a fellowship for the first year of academic studies. Support for subsequent years will be provided by the major research advisor. First-year fellowship for 2008 is $24,000.
