Students in the Molecular & Cellular Biophysics and Biochemistry (MCBB) PhD program are expected to take courses from within the Department as well as courses from outside of the Department. Courses offered by the Department are described below and the descriptions of external courses can be found in the descriptions of other departments on the web or by contacting the Chair. The choice of courses is determined by the long term goals of the student in conjunction with the guidance of the Student Advisory Committee. This committee is composed of two faculty, including the Director of Graduate Studies, and a current student in the program. The committee is familiar with the array of available courses and their contents. In addition to the courses selected from within the Department, each student is required to take courses offered externally. While not in the following listing, these important courses are major components in a students training the their MCBB PhD programs. Specifically, all students take an advanced course in Oncology which covers the molecular biology, tumor biology, immunology and the clinical science of cancer. Additionally, students are to take either a course in Molecular Biochemistry or in Advanced Molecular Biology. Other external courses can be chosen as indicated by the need of the student in their specific area of training. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
