The Admissions Committee evaluates the credentials of Ph.D. applicants and offers admission to those likely to succeed.
Financial assistance is available to all first-year students from departmental or graduate school resources. Students in the second year and beyond are supported by research assistantships provided by their chosen research advisor. Such fellowships and assistantships usually include a tuition waiver and health insurance. Students applying for financial assistance are encouraged to apply no later than February 1 for Fall admission.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree in a scientific field, preferably biology; a minimum average grade of "B" is required. Applicants must take the general GRE test. If a subject test is taken it should be either in biology or biochemistry. Scores at or above the 50th percentile in all tests are required. TOEFL scores for internationals, should be at least 250 for the computer test or 600 for the paper test or 95 for the new iBT TOEFL.

- Official standardized test scores (G.R.E. verbal, quantitative, analytical); Subject test scores required for international Ph.D. applicants
- TOEFL (600 score for traditional tests; 250 for computer-based tests; 95 for iBT); TWE (4.0)
Application Deadlines:
Preference for admission is given to those whose applications are received on or before February 1. Each Ph.D. student who is accepted will be considered for a fellowship for the first year of academic studies. Support for subsequent years will be provided by the major research advisor. First-year fellowship for 2008 is $24,000.
