The Twenty-First Annual Clinical Course on Flow & Image Cytometry will take place at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY, USA. The course will include hands-on laboratory and computer training in small groups, led by expert faculty; lectures on a variety of general and advanced topics; and many opportunities for informal discussion. The course will emphasize basic flow theory, current best practices in the clinical laboratory, flow cytometric diagnosis of leukemia and lymphoma, and frontiers for the future.
The schedule includes morning and early afternoon lectures, followed by 3-4 hour blocks of laboratory and computer training. Participants will rotate through each of the seven practical modules. They can choose between a laboratory track focusing on Flow Cytometric Clinical Sciences, or one dealing with Interpretation Leukemia and Flow Cytometric data. Evenings will provide time for questions and answers, panel discussions and informal interactions. There will be a celebratory dinner at Niagara Falls on Thursday evening.

OBJECTIVES
Participants will gain an understanding of the principles of flow cytometry and up-to-date-knowledge of the ways in which cytometry can be applied to, among others, the following clinical problems:
> leukemia and lymphoma phenotyping and interpretation of histograms
> analysis of myeloid disorders and granulocyte function
> analysis of intracellular epitopes and signaling pathways in leukemia
> staining and histogram analysis for DNA cell cycle stage and ploidy
> high level multicolor clinical flow cytometry
> quality control, standardization, and proper experimental design
> flow cytometric diagnosis of primary immunodeficiencies
> reference and alternative methods for CD4 and CD34 measurements
> selection of flurochromes and compensation issues
> staining of leukocytes for tetramers to evaluate antigen specificity
> use of tracking dyes to follow cell proliferation
> imaging techniques for chemosensitivity and FISH analysis
